Site-specific sound performance

electrofield is a site-specific sound project developed and realised through Experimental Field, an independent artistic platform.
The project received funding from Musikfonds, Germany’s federal funding institution for contemporary and experimental music.
Created by Grisha Mumrikov and Andrey Guryanov, electrofield was first realised in 2026 beside an operating wind turbine in Ense-Höingen, North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany. Six musicians performed continuously for six hours, working with acoustic instruments, electronics, voice and free improvisation within the existing sound environment of the site.
The wind turbine, aside from being a remarkable sound object in its own right, changed speed and direction in response to weather conditions and energy demand. It became an active element of the performance, making audible the relationship between natural forces, technological infrastructure and human activity.
The performance proposed a different mode of listening. Its extended duration evoked the structure of a ritual or a vigil, creating a situation in which an energy infrastructure usually perceived primarily through its function could instead be experienced through sound, duration and attention.
There was no precomposed score, fixed structure or scheduled intermission. The musicians decided when to play or remain silent, responding to one another, to the turbine and to changing environmental conditions. Over six hours, the work developed through shifts in weather, mechanical sound and collective musical decisions. Rather than functioning as a backdrop, the site continuously shaped the performance.
The audience moved freely through the landscape and could experience the work from different positions in relation to the musicians and the turbine. Each position produced a different balance between instrumental sound, electronics, voice, wind and machinery, making spatial movement itself part of the listening process.
